Jade Restaurant – The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

This post has been long overdued. By the time I post this, I have already eaten twice at this place.

The quality of food is good and for a place like this AND buffet dim sum, the price is really reasonable. The number of pieces of dim sum is according to the number of people in the table. So there is no worry about too much or insufficient servings.

$36+++ for Adult and $18+++ for 6 – 11 year old child

Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant 瑞春点心拉面小笼包

We finally had this dim sum after talking about this for a month! We visited this place a week and half ago but was closed because it was a Tuesday! But today we finally had it and it was awesome!!

The prices were so reasonable and the quality of food was beyond my expectations. The hor fun left a good impression as it encompassed  the “wok hei” which is not commonly found in Singapore. I also enjoyed the Portuguese egg tart very much. The pastry was light and flaky and the egg custard was just nice – not too hard, not too sweet. The 红油抄手 was good too. I liked it that the vinegar was fragrant and the combination of it with chilli oil was of good proportion. The 流沙包 had a good skin texture and the salted egg custard filling was generous. What I did not like was the cheong fun only. It was plainly garnished with soy sauce and sesame seeds accompanied with the sweet sauce. I was expecting the usual char siew / prawn cheong fun.

The restaurant also serves la mian, cooked dishes and desserts. Definitely going back for more!

Expect long queues but waiting time is usually quite fast. They do not allow seating until majority of the people have arrived.

Ah Yat Seafood

My family and I came here for the first time to celebrate my mum’s birthday. They had this set promotion at the time and we ordered the $198++ set. This was very worth it because the portions were big and they were not stingy on the seafood ingredients. Every dish served onto our table was a “WOW”.

My favourite was the braised e-fu noodles with Boston lobster. I would expect lobster to be tasteless when cooked in this manner. However, it was so sweet and full of the sea flvour on every strand of noodle, sauce and the tender lobster meat itself. Suckling pig did not have the foul “piggy” taste so I could eat it! Shark’s fin was generously seen in every of our bowls. The fish was well accompanied with the  fragrant soy sauce. It was the first time I’ve eaten Alaska king crab too. This is where the authentic long crab stick meat come from! We were given a special pair of scissors each and I had fun eating them!

As for the dim sum I had with CP on another occasion, there is nothing worth mentioning. Dim sum is obviously not their forte.

Har Gao $4.20
Steamed dumpling with scallop $4.20
Siew Mai $3.80
Deep fried banana ball with red bean paste $4.20
Deep fried scallop in yam paste $3.80

Maxim Restaurant 美心快餐店

Similar to Cafe de Coral, Maxim also has many outlets throughout Hong Kong. They are really strong competitors, serving delicious roasted flavours at very affordable prices. So, have a try at both and judge for yourself, at which one you think is better.

Personally, I prefer Maxim. Their roasted items are more fragrant, and they also serve roasted goose, which Cafe de Coral doesn’t. To add on, they have mini tv at their benches so as to make sure that you don’t miss out on your favourite dramas!! So cool!!!

The place is always packed during meal times as well as into late in the night. Hong Kong people are really quite hardworking, ya? The place closes at around 11 pm, and they stop selling roasted flavours at about 10 pm.

联邦皇宫(东涌)

This is my second time eating in this restaurant in Hong Kong. This is located at the far western end on Lantau island, very near the airport, at Tung Chung MTR station. This place will not be unfamiliar as Citygate houses many branded outlets such as Burberry, Kate Spade, Addidas and Coach. Inside Citygate, many people visit this restaurant. Long queues are seen at all times – breakfast, lunch, tea-time and dinner, and most probably you may have to get a queue number just like us.

烧鹅皇牌套餐 Roasted Goose

A well roasted goose seen above here. The meat is just like the duck’s, just that this is more flavourful and has more meat due to it being bigger. Roasted meat is the best in Hong Kong. VERY GOOD.

化皮烧乳猪 Suckling Pig

The restaurant was very nice to roast this half a suckling pig just for us. We only had to wait for half an hour and it was ready. Rest assure that this pig does not have the smelly pig smell and neither was it fatty. The skin was roasted to almost perfection and the thin slice of meat that comes with the skin was tender. EXCELLENT!

港式蒸红鱼 Steamed Red Fish

Last but not least, Hong Kong steam fish is a must to have in Hong Kong restaurants. Steamed and then sprinkled with fragrant oil and spring onion garnishes, you just cannot imagine how the chefs did this. The fish is always steamed so perfectly and the sauce is always so fragrant. SUPER GOOD!

Roasted Goose Set (comes with a big bowl of noodles in soup) 烧鹅皇牌套餐 $198
Steamed Red Fish 港式蒸红鱼 $88
Suckling Pig 化皮烧乳猪 $248
Tea 茶 每人 – $9
Service charges $57.90.

Total: $637

Damansara Palace Restaurant Sdn. Bhd 白沙羅皇宫大酒楼

My cousin brought me here for brunch. The place is air-conditioned and spacious. Totally comfortable.

The stir-fried carrot cake is SUPER SUPER SUPER nice. We ordered like three rounds of it. On top of that, the siew mai and har gau was also good. Its century egg porridge was smooth. Ah, really love to have dim sum as the first meal of the day. A pity there was only 2 of us and her 5-year old daughter. Otherwise, we could have ordered more food.

$2 for tea and $1 for towel per person.

记得食

A supposedly well-known eatery that serves Taiwan snacks and desserts.

What is good here is there laksa!!! The gravy is rich, and most importantly, I really like their noodles. It is thick and chewy!! It comes with stuffed items like lady’s finger and fish ball. The wantan and siew mai are also good. My niece loves the strawberry “lo” which is strawberry ice there. The carrot cake was so-so. Definitely a place to re-visit, and the next time I’m gonna order a big bowl of laksa for myself!

Bosses 黑色会

The whole restaurant is black and dark. It lives well up to its restaurant name. If not for the 30% offer, I don’t think I will walk in for food. I think their food is expensive.

However, I tasted really good stuff here. One of them is their signature custard bun. The bun is warm and soft, and the inner is filled with yellow liquid custard (salted egg yolk and cream). So when you bite into it, it is quite possible that the custard will flow out of the bun. Very delicious and sinful.

Another one is their prawn and beancurd skin roll and durian mochi. The rest of the dishes were so so only.

Dim Sum @ Crystal Jade

Recently realised that Crystal Jade serves quite good dim sum.
The century egg porridge is ok only. Even though the porridge is very smooth, the taste was not very great. They failed to infuse the century egg and pork flavour into the white porridge. $6.80.
Century Egg Porridge

Century Egg Porridge

Xiao Long Bao, which has always been my favourite since Uni days, is sold now at Crystal Jade Kitchen! 4 xiao long bao for $4. Somehow, I felt that the skin has thickened at the top. But the flavour is good and the amount of soup in the dumpling is sufficient.
Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao

They have four types of chee cheong fun – scallop, prawn, dough fritters and char siew. The scallop one is special, and I quite like them followed by the prawn ones. The most important part of chee cheong fun is the soya sauce and the “skin”. The sauce is good, and the skin is just of the correct thickness. But of course, the thinner the skin, the better!
Cheong Fun

There comes my favourite har kau! The skin is of the right thickness, and the prawn inside are whole prawns, not the minced up type! The siew mai is all right.

Nice egg tarts are not easy to find in Singapore! Crystal Jade sells really good egg tarts, especially good when they are fresh out of the oven! $2.80 for 3 pieces.

My colleague like this E-fu mee. I took a bite of it, and I don’t think it is as tasty as what he described it to be. Canton Kitchen’s e-fu mee is much nicer. $10.50.
